Marcelo Yuka e Apollo Nove
A9 Audio is one of the most prized brazilian audio production houses, with dozens of Cannes Lyons, Clio Awards, etc. But, somehow their street credibility is what puts them apart from the others. Artists like Tropkillaz, Seu Jorge, Marcelo D2, Rita Lee (Os Mutantes) are regular collaborators, and helped create their signature sound, which is spread in adds and records released all over the world.
Also an early helper was Roy Cicala, american engineer that recorded all John Lennon’s solo albums in his famous Record Plant Studios, NYC. Roy came to Brazil in 2006 and was a partner at A9 until his passing in 2014. His great connections with the industry (he gave Jimmy Iovine his first job, as described on Netflix’s The Defiant Ones) brought clients such as Aerosmith, Alice Cooper and other big rock acts to either record or mix there and a list of vintage equipment that’s unmatched in Brazil.
Apollo Nove, who founded the company in 2006, was in Planet Hemp, one of the biggest selling local Hip Hop acts, and worked with Bebel Gilberto, Chico Science, Seu Jorge, Elza Soares, Soulwax, Dj Hell, Modeselektor plus a lot of artists that are household names in Brazil.
A9 Audio also represent Tropkillaz for ads with exclusivity. They are chart toppers here, collaborating with Anitta, J Balvin, Diplo, etc, bringing an infectious blend of Favela Funk and Trap that is the latest incarnation of modern Brazilian music to fans all over the world.
